School of Medicine Laptop Program

The UMMS School of Medicine Program (SLP) was implemented in Fall 2010. Currently it is a requirement for the School of Medicine. Beginning in Fall, 2013, UMMS moved to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model. This means that all incoming students can purchase new or continue to use a laptop that they have already purchased not more than three years ago. The Minimum System Requirements we have outlined for you will ensure that your laptop serves as a portal to Computer-Based Testing and all digital resources including the online courses in Blackboard Learn, streaming lectures and podcasts, Virtual Microscopy slides and digital lecture notes which can be personalized and annotated.

In order for students to successfully access these and other tools, custom computer settings and programs are necessary. This becomes especially critical during computer-based testing where we used a secure lockdown browser. Information Services and the educational community collaborated to create an inventory of software and customizations for both the Windows and Macintosh environments.
