English as Second Language (ESL) Class

These culturally immersive English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are offered in partnership with Literacy Volunteers of Greater Worcester. Classes cover listening skills, pronunciation, vocabulary building, conversational English and integrating ideas/American lifestyles as well as opportunities for social interaction.

Fall 2015 Schedule & Course Description:

English Conversation for Professionals 

Tuesdays, September 22 - December 15 from 6-8 p.m., Teacher: Sarah Lyon

Description: This course will provide participants with an opportunity to improve their English skills while engaging in lively discussions on a variety of topics including American culture, current events, and student interests.  Time will be set aside to focus on pronunciation, vocabulary and idioms, advanced topics in grammar, listening, and presentation skills.

Wednesday September 23 - December 16 from 6-8 p.m. Teacher: Terese Curtin

Description: In this class, we will explore topics most relevant to non-natives through lively English conversation. This class will help you to navigate living in the United States. Class topics may include US culture/customs, social etiquette, holidays, local historical attractions, and eating in restaurants. Every class, we will read a short text to increase vocabulary and improve pronunciation. As a part of this class, students will have the option to go on a field trip to the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts on Sunday, October 11th.

Cost
For UMMS employees, suggested donation is $35 for a 12-week program. Personal Checks Only - payable to "Literacy Volunteers of Worcester." No refunds.
