About the Author

I am a cardiologist. I spend much of my time doing the things that cardiologists do: taking care of patients with heart disease on the floors and intensive care units of the hospital, doing cardiac consultations, and working in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. But for many years I have thought that prevention was better than treatment and that working to keep people healthy is better than waiting until they are sick. And so my particular interest now is prevention of heart and vascular disease and my outpatient practice is especially oriented towards keeping people well. Most cardiovascular disease is preventable, and even after disease is present we can stop it from progressing. To do this requires a partnership between doctor and patient - the doctor must communicate effectively and counsel wisely and the patient needs to make the lifestyle changes and take the medications that will lead to a healthier life. This site provides some of the knowledge and tools that make it easier to understand what you need to do and why.

About this website

If you look around the web, or do any "Google" search for heart disease prevention, you will come across many sites constructed by hospitals, physician groups, or other interested parties such as the American Heart Association or the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.  Many of these sites contain a wealth of information, but the average person looking for useful quick summaries often finds it a difficult process, either because there is too much information, or it is not presented in a manner that makes it easy to read and understand, or what the individual is looking for simply does not exist on that website.  Here we will provide information in a format that is easy to follow and that does not overwhelm the reader.
