Kenneth Peterson, PhD, FNP is the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty, Graduate School of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Worcester. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Social Policy from The Heller School for Social Policy & Management at Brandeis University in 2009. Dr. Peterson's  dissertation titled "Measuring the Hospital Climate for the Delivery of Patient-& Family-Centered Care (PFCC)" examined nurses'; perceptions of  PFCC and assessed how the organizations in which they work affect the delivery of PFCC. Ken has practiced nursing with individuals of all ages and in a variety of settings since receiving his undergraduate nursing degree in 1989. Ken has maintained a lifetime commitment to social justice. He has continued to practice in his role as primary care provider for underserved and marginalized individuals in the Worcester, MA area since receiving his graduate nursing degree and national certification credentials as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1994. His current research and academic scholarship interests are focused on health care quality improvement including the transformation of primary care, developing a patient-centered medical home, and chronic disease management. He is also involved in scholarship towards developing a geriatric research agenda for nurse educators framed from a policy lens.
