CPHR Student, Lisa Lines
Lisa Lines won a student travel award to attend the International Conference on Health Policy Statistics in Cleveland in October. At the conference, she presented a poster entitled "Quantile Regression Analysis of the Effect of Health Maintenance Organization Enrollment on Medical Expenditures." The poster came out of work she did during her summer independent study on applied econometrics, advised by Jeroan Allison and Arlene Ash, who were also coauthors on the poster. At the ICHPS meeting, she attended workshops on quantile regression, instrumental variables, missing data imputation methods, and inverse probability weighting. This small conference, which is organized by the Health Policy Statistics section of the American Statistical Association, is a great opportunity for students to get more exposure to advanced statistical methods and hang out with some very accomplished statisticians and health services researchers. The next one will be held in 2013 in Seattle.
