Division of Geriatric Medicine

Clinical Care

UMass Memorial Medical Center geriatrics provide a range of evaluation and treatment services to the seniors of our community.

Services include comprehensive geriatric assessment, fall evaluation, geriatric consultation, home visits and long-term care. Members of the staff provide coverage in several of the area's nursing and long-term care facilities.

In addition to the specialized physicians, patients are cared for by geriatric nurse practitioners and have availability to the services of a geriatric social worker.

 




The  Clinical Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine is Dr. Catherine Dubeau.

The Clinical Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine is Dr. Catherine Dubeau, a board certified geriatrician and nationally recognized expert in geriatric medicine and urogynecology. Her research focuses on quality of life impact, patient-centered outcomes, and long-term care, and more recently on medical education on incontinence. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and Editorial Board member of Neurourology and Urodynamics. She is a dedicated teacher and lectures nationally and internationally on incontinence in older persons.

 

 

The Division Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine is Dr. Jerry Gurwitz.
  Jerry Gurwitz New The Division Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine is Dr. Jerry Gurwitz, a board certified geriatrician and nationally recognized expert in geriatric medicine and the use of drug therapy in the elderly. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Meyers Primary Care Institute, a joint initiative of the Fallon Clinic Foundation, Fallon Community Health Plan, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, focused on promoting primary care research and education. Dr. Gurwitz has published numerous original articles, reviews, commentaries, and book chapters on the optimal use of drug therapy in elderly patients.
