The Genomics Core is equipped with latest

Affymetrix GeneChip Instrument System: 

  • GeneChip Scanner 3000, with 7G upgrade 
  • GeneChip Hybridization Oven 320   
  • two FS450 fluidics stations 

The Genomics Core will prepare cDNA and cRNA from total RNA if  requested, or lab researchers may choose to generate cRNA themselves.

GeneChips must be purchased directly from Affymetrix (1-888-DNA-CHIP) by researcher labs. 

Upon completion of the GeneChip experiment, resulting data files and extracted text files will be available for UMass researchers in the appropriate folder on the R drive for internal network access. External researchers will receive data on CD.

Affymetrix is now offering GCOS, GeneChip Operating Software, free of charge, available from the Affymetrix Software Download Center . GCOS, which replaces MAS (MicroArray Suite), manages sample and experimental information, and performs gene expression data analysis.  Users will be able to view .DAT (image) and .CEL(normalized image) files and generate .CHP(pivot) files using either single or batch analysis method. 		   chipcloseup2
