Planned Giving
With strategic planning, there are opportunities that may enable you to increase your income, reduce your estate and/or income tax liability, while creating a legacy at the UMass Memorial Foundation.
Bequests
Bequests provide substantial support for the UMass Memorial Foundation's research objectives, and are an easy and important way for you to join the fight against eradicating disease. You may designate an exact amount, a percentage of your total estate, or the rest, remainder or residue of your estate after all payments and bequests have been made. If you plan to include the UMass Memorial Foundation in your will, please contact the Development Office (508-856-4064) to obtain a copy of our preferred language.
Charitable Gift Annuities
An agreement whereby the UMass Memorial Foundation agrees to pay you a fixed sum of money annually for life. The payments can begin now or be deferred until a future date, such as retirement.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
Individually managed by the UMass Memorial Foundation. A Unitrust pays a fixed percentage of trust assets revalued annually and an Annuity Trust pays a fixed dollar amount annually.
Pooled Income Funds
Similar to mutual funds in which all gifts are combined and assigned units. The fund will pay you each quarter your share of the net income of the fund for life.
Charitable Lead Trusts
Individually managed trusts that pay a sum of money to the UMass Memorial Foundation for a fixed number of years. When the trust terminates, the principle reverts to you or passes on to your named beneficiaries. Such gifts may have significant tax advantages to you.
Retained Life Estates
Give property, such as a residence, to the UMass Memorial Foundation now while retaining the right to reside in it for your life.
Gifts of Real Estate and Personal Property
Personal residencies or other real property, life insurance, retirement plans, patents, copyrights, royalties, and/or other tangible personal property may qualify for an income tax deduction. Each of these has special rules for gift valuation. If you are interested in making a gift using an asset of this type, please contact our office first to determine if the UMass Memorial Foundation can accept it.
If you would like additional information or preliminary gift calculations, at no obligation, please contact the Development Office:
