Training Activities

The Program provides specialized forensic training through types of weekly activities:

  • applied forensic clinical experience (about 32 hrs./week)
  • weekly seminars ( about 4-5 hrs./week), and
  • research experience (about 3- 4 hrs./week).

Applied Forensic Clinical Experience

Every fellow obtains applied forensic experience in several different types of forensic settings. There are two broad types of forensic settings in Massachusetts: inpatient forensic evaluation units, and court clinics. (Court clinics consist of groups of professionals who provide on-site forensic evaluations and consultation to the courts within regions of the state). We believe that it is consistent with good preparation for a forensic psychology career for fellows to obtain some experience in both of these types of settings.

Currently we offer only adult tracks. We have two positions available which includes inpatient work in both a maximum security forensic hospital (Bridgewater State Hospital) and a Department of Mental Health state hospital ( including Worcester State Hospital,  with the possibility of placements in other DMH facilities) as well as experience in a court clinic. Additional rotations, dependent on the interest of the fellows, may also be available.

Forensic Experience Training Sites. We collaborate with several public sector forensic evaluation services and teams throughout Massachusetts to provide the above training experiences. The following are brief descriptions of those sites.
