Wellness Expo
Employees survey results and follow-up
Last April, the Wellness Task Force asked UMMS employees to participate in a Needs and Interest Survey. As a group, employees said their top two concerns were physical activity and eating healthy. In defining “physical activity” employees as a group rated of equal importance yoga, aerobic exercise and access to walking paths. For “eating healthy,” employees wanted healthier choices in the cafeterias and vending machines, point-of-purchase nutritional information and healthier catering options.
As a first step toward responding to the wellness wants of UMMS employees, the Wellness Task Force is hosting its first-ever Wellness Expo on the University Campus. Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Old Medical School Lobby for a full slate of wellness and health offerings, including:
- Kickoff of the American Heart Association’s Start! Walking & Wellness Program
- Biometrics—personal and private blood pressure screening and height, weight and body mass index checks
- A lottery for grant-subsidized yoga classes at University Campus and South Street
- Information about walking trails around University Campus and South Street, including new maps
- Cooking demonstrations
- Stress busters
- Campus fitness center representatives
- Area health club representatives, who will be offering discounted memberships
- Information on smoking cessation, mothers rooms and flexible work options
