Bullet Green The National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review has chosen Terence R. Flotte, MD, professor of pediatrics and dean of the School of Medicine, to become a member of the new College of CSR Reviewers for a two-year period. Membership is restricted to respected senior scientists who are strongly committed to peer review and is by invitation only.

Bullet Green The American College of Chest Physicians honored Richard Irwin, MD, professor of medicine and chair of critical care operations at UMass Memorial Medical Center, with its Master Fellow Award, which honors members who have “achieved national or international prominence for their character, leadership, eminence in practice, contributions to research or outstanding service.” Only 28 physicians have received this honor since it was established in 1935.

Bullet Green William C. Okulicz, PhD, associate professor of physiology and obstetrics & gynecology, was named Top Reviewer for 2009 by the journal Steroids in appreciation for his contributions.

Bullet Green Peter Paige, MD, clinical associate professor of emergency medicine and vice chair of emergency medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center, was named chair of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, which licenses more than 38,000 physicians, osteopaths and acupuncturists. He has served on the board since 2006, and was recently appointed to a second three-year term by Gov. Deval Patrick. Dr. Paige also serves as the chair of the board’s Complaint Committee.
