Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)

The UMASS Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is a student-run organization with rotating leadership from members of the MS2 class each year. During the 2006-2007 academic year, the co-leaders will be Brad Schwartz and Miguel Concepcion. The Department of Family Medicine & Community Health provides support for the group including the assignment of a Faculty Advisor, Heidi Shah, M.D., at heidi_shah@GREATBROOK.org  and an Administrative contact, Karen Rayla at karen.rayla@umassmed.edu or (508) 856-4117.

FMIG Hands On NightThe group holds a number of meetings each year focused on issues relating to Family Medicine. It gives students with a common interest an opportunity to consider topics such as, "What is Family Medicine," "Balancing a Career and Family in Medicine," and "Which Primary Care Discipline is For Me?"

The FMIG is a national organization and you will want to check out the Virtual Family Medicine Interest Group Web site This link goes to an external web site. Though parts of the site are still under construction, it is updated regularly and organized by year - look at M1 your first year; M2 your second year and so on.
