Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)
The UMASS Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is a student-run organization with rotating leadership from members of the MS2 class each year. During the 2008 - 2009 academic year, the co-leaders will be Marcy (Keddy) Boucher, Elizabeth Quinn and Zheni Gjoka.
The Department of Family Medicine & Community Health provides support for the group including the assignment of a Faculty Advisor, Kosta Deligiannidis, M.D., at deligiak@ummhc.org and an Administrative contact, Karen Rayla at karen.rayla@umassmed.edu or (508) 856-4117.
The group holds a number of meetings each year focused on issues relating to Family Medicine. It gives students with a common interest an opportunity to consider topics such as, "What is Family Medicine," "Balancing a Career and Family in Medicine," and "Which Primary Care Discipline is For Me?"
The FMIG is a national organization and you will want to check out the Virtual Family Medicine Interest Group Web site
. Though parts of the site are still under construction, it is updated regularly and organized by year - look at M1 your first year; M2 your second year and so on.
