Faculty Profiles
Frank J. Domino, M.D., Clerkship Director
Frank J. Domino, M.D. joined the faculty here in 1996. He became Director of the Family Medicine Clerkship in July, 1998. His past experience comes from running a four person practice in Poughkeepsie, New York for three years. He also taught in a Family Practice Residency Program in the Hudson River Valley Region of New York State.
He received his medical degree from the University of Texas in Houston, and did his residency at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey. His areas of special interest are medical ethics, and adolescent medicine.
Karen A. Rayla, Clerkship Coordinator
Karen has been with the Department since August, 1999. She has been administrative coordinator of the clerkship since June, 2002. Karen previously did administrative work for Mark Quirk, Ed.D. (Academic Enrichment Program) and Mick Godkin, Ph.D. (International Medical Education Program, as well as the Pathways Program). She enjoys working with medical students, and the challenge of the student placements.
Robert A. Baldor, M.D., Small Group Discussion Leader
Robert A. Baldor, M.D., is the Predoctoral Director and Associate Vice Chair of the Department. Dr. Baldor's special medical interests include skin diseases, managed care, hypertension, immunizations, and care of the mentally retarded individual. His personal interests include grape physiology and fermentation.
Philip O. Fournier, M.D., Small Group Discussion Leader
Philip O. Fournier, M.D., has been in the Department since 1992. He graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his Family Practice Residency at Brown University. He is currently Medical Director of the Benedict Building Family Practice. He has taught in the clerkship for seven years and teaches other medical school courses as well.
Kim Houde, M.D., Small Group Leader and Evaluator
Kim Houde, M.D., is a UMMS graduate. She completed her residency at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Her clinical interests include women's health and her clinical practice includes prenatal care, labor and delivery, and pediatric care. She coordinates gyn rotation/women's health for the residency. Clinical interests include breast feeding (member of the LaLeche Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine). She's on the Nipmuc Women's Health Advisory Board, and teaches in the clerkship.
Roger Luckmann, M.D., M.P.H., Preventive Medicine Lecturer
Dr. Luckmann received his clinical training in Internal Medicine had has additional training and experience in epidemiology, public health, occupational medicine and geriatrics. Before coming to UMASS in 1988, he served a wide variety of roles in Minnesota and California including Medical Epidemiologist for the California Department of Health. He currently teaches epidemiology, medical decision making and preventive medicine to medical students and in the MPH program. As co-director of a project to improve the Medical School curriculum in cancer prevention, he is helping to develop teaching materials on cancer screening and population based approaches to cancer prevention. He practices primary care internal medicine in the Benedict Building. His research interests range from the delivery of preventive services in the primary care setting to the etiology of appendicitis.
Mark E. Quirk, Ed.D., Evaluation and Curriculum
Mark E. Quirk, Ed.D. is Assistant Dean for Academic Achievement and Associate Chair of the Department. He is Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Community Faculty Development. He assists the Clerkship Director in development of curriculum and evaluation.
