George Washington University, M.D., 1973
Family Practice Residency: Regional Family Health Center/UMass, 1977

"The diversity of the Worcester program provides numerous opportunities for professional support and growth. The concept of a University program located in the community allows our residents to experience the true meaning of family practice. Working in a teaching role allows me the privilege of witnessing the growth of family physicians from "green" medical students to young colleagues. It is also a continuous source of intellectual stimulation. Our residents are a dedicated, hard-working group of aspiring family physicians who take pride in their care of patients. They are a fun group to work with day-to-day."

Areas of Interest: Rural Health Care.

Alexandra Schultes, M.D., Assistant Professor

"What I appreciate about this residency programs is the ability to develop and modify rotations to optimize the teaching/learning experience. I value the rewards I get from patients, residents and staff here at the health center, especially being part of the Barre community, and feeling that I am making a positive difference in some people's lives."

Areas of Interest: Dermatology, Counseling (individual/group), especially Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Domestic Violence, Colposcopy, and School Health Education.

"Teaching provides me with a lively, interactive, collegial atmosphere, with constant impetus to stay current. Maintaining clear communication skills is invaluable. The balance of urban and rural family medicine, with enough faculty with diverse interests to make it work, makes this program exceptional."
