Potential Rotation Projects
Project #1: The dynamics of caspase-3 activation during oxalate-induced toxicity in kidney epithelial cells. A fluorescent energy transfer probe will be introduced into cells by transient and stable transfection and used to monitor activation of caspase-3 (a key proteolytic enzyme involved in cell death) in individual cells.
Project #2: The dynamics of activation of cytosolic phospholipase A2 in kidney and bone cells. Fusion constructs of phospholipase A2 - green fluorescent protein will be made and to produce transient and stable transfected cells. These cells will then be used to follow the dynamics of intracellular movement of the enzyme in response to oxalate in kidney cells and Vitamin D in bone cells.
