Jianhua Zhou, Ph.D.

Academic Role: Associate Professor

Faculty Appointment(s) In:

Other Affiliation(s):
   Interdisciplinary Graduate Program
   Program in Neuroscience

Potential Rotation Projects

  1. We have generated Drosophila models that overexpress dNrdp1 and demonstrate that overexpresion of dNrdp1 induces serveral Parkinson's disease like phenotypes. The rotation project is to identify genetic suppressors/enhancers of dNrdp1 induced phenotypes.
  2. We have identified Drosophila models with a p-element insertion in Nrdp1 intron 1 (hypomorphic). The rotation project would be to generate dNrdp1 null mutants using p-element hopping.
  3. Examination of Nrdp1 expression in brain tissues using Western blot analysis and immunocytochemistry.
  4. Identification and characterization of compounds/drugs that modulate splicing of mRNA in SMN, tau and/or BACE1 gene using cell based assays (luciferase).
