Lori Pbert, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Director of the Center for Tobacco Treatment Research and Training, and Associate Chief of the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Her research interests include the evaluation of clinic-based interventions for health promotion and disease prevention, tobacco treatment in adolescents and adults, training and certification programs for Tobacco Treatment Specialists, obesity prevention and treatment, and asthma management. |

Principal Investigator, A School Nurse-delivered Intervention for Overweight and At Risk Adolescents, National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, February 2008 – January 2010.
The purpose of this study is to adapt a theory-based school nurse-delivered intervention and test its feasibility and potential efficacy in reducing BMI, improving diet, increasing physical activity and decreasing sedentary behavior among adolescents.
Principal Investigator, School Nurse-delivered Smoking Cessation Intervention, National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, March 2006 – February 2010.
This randomized controlled school-based trial will evaluate the effectiveness of a four-session school nurse-delivered smoking cessation intervention in increasing abstinence rates among high school students who smoke.
Principal Investigator, Asthma and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), National Institutes of Health/National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, October 2006 – September 2008.
The purpose of this randomized controlled trial is to collect preliminary data on the effect of MBSR on behavioral and psychological aspects of asthma and lung function.
Principal Investigator, Training and Technical Assistance for Massachusetts Smoking Cessation Efforts, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, June 2005 – May 2009.
The purpose of this project is to design and implement tobacco treatment training and technical assistance initiatives to support smoking cessation activities statewide.
