Instrumentation
BD FACSCaliburs
These are dual-beam (air-cooled lasers) analyzers similar to the FACScan in capabilities with the addition of the second laser for four color immunofluorescence analysis. The second laser is a red-emitting diode, with output at 635nm only, suitable for excitation of APC [Allophycocyanin] or Alexa 647. Aside from the two dedicated FACSCaliburs for lab sample analysis, we also have a third instrument for customer use (after completing our training course, or demonstrating proficiency).
BD LSR IIs
The LSR II is a state of the art multiparameter flow cytometer analyzer. It features the Digital DIVA hardware and software. The LSR II housed in the LRB has 4 lasers and 10 fluorescent detectors and is primarily dedicated to customer use (after completing our training course, or demonstrating proficiency), while the Core Facility LSR II has 18 fluorescent detectors. Check the protocols page for a chart listing the fluorochrome options for the LSR IIs. Due to the more complex nature, please schedule LSR II experiments that you would like us to run well in advance with any staff member.
Beckman Coulter MoFlo XDP
The three laser MoFlo XDP digital cell sorter is configured with 2 colors on the 633nm laser, 3 on the 405nm laser which can be configured for Quantum dots as well as violet excited dyes, and 5 colors on the 488nm laser. This machine is ideal for sorting large numbers of small cells.
BD FACSVantage DV-1
The configuration is 5 fluorescent detectors from the 488nm laser, 2 detectors from the UV laser and 4 detectors from the red laser utilizing the octagons and trigon detectors found in the BD FACSAria, LSRII and FACSCantos.
Core Lab BD FACSAria II

The Core Lab Aria is configured with 5 parameters on the 488nm laser, 3 parameters of the 633nm laser, 3parameters on the 405nm laser, 3 parameters on the 350nm laser, and five parameters on the 561nm laser. With this machine, we are now able to sort 561nm excited fluorochromes such as mCherry.
BSL3 BD FACSAria
The BSL3 Aria is configured with 5 parameters on the 488nm laser, 3 parameters on the 633nm laser, 3 parameters on the 405nm laser, and 3 parameters on the 350nm laser. This machine is housed in a BSL3 facility allowing us to sort unscreened human and/or infectious samples up to biosafety level 3.
