The Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Toxicology’s Center for Pesticide Studies was formed in 2009 to conduct rigorous basic and translational research studies of acute pesticide poisoning and exposure.
Currently the Center has several areas of research concentration. They are:
1. Pharmacokinetics (PK) and efficacy of the OP hydrolase, OpdA;
2. The effects of organophosphorus (OP) pesticides on central respiratory drive;
3. Development of novel OP hydrolases against the most problematic OP pesticides in the developing world.
The Center is currently looking for post-docs with experience in protein engineering, particularly OP hydrolases such as paraoxonase. Interested individuals should send a CV and cover letter to Dr. Steven Bird
The Center for Pesticide Studies is funded through grants from the National Institute of
Environmental Health Sciences and National Institute for Neurologic Diseases and Stroke.
