Dr. Bird became the program director on July 1, 2011. He is a graduate of the Fellowship in Toxicology in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is a 2002 graduate of the Residency Program there and served as Chief Resident 2001-2002. Dr. Bird additionally served in the United States Navy Medical Corps as a Flight Surgeon and researcher in Neurosurgery. He served as a General Surgery intern during 1995-96 at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. He is a 1995 AOA graduate of the Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL and graduated Cum Laude from Yale University in 1991.
Dr. Bird is the recipient of a 4-year NIH K08 award investigating
the hyperacute CNS effects of organophosphorus pesticides via functional
MRI.
He has also received a second NIH for 2 years to study the
efficacy and kinetics of a novel enzymatic antidote for
organophosphorus poisoning.
