Circus brings fun and donation to UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center

$10,000 given to support pediatric cancer patients

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey was in town in April 2016 to perform at the DCU Center in Worcester. Before the show, circus members stopped by the UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center (CMC) to give young patients a special look at a few of the acts—and to give a gift.

Ringling Bros. generously donated $10,000 to the CMC to support local pediatric patients as well as tickets to outpatient children and families. Worcester was one of 50 cities in the U.S. in which Ringling Bros. made these contributions to local children’s hospitals or treatment centers. In conjunction with those local donations, the Ringling Bros. Children's Fund made a matching donation to support a research program that studies why there is such a low incidence of cancer in elephants, what makes this cancer resistance possible in elephants and not in humans, and how this may correlate to new treatments for pediatric cancers.
