Disaster Medicine and Emergency Management Fellowship
Program Highlights:
- Program type: two year program (includes masters program: MPH, MA or MS)
- Year Starting: 2009
The Disaster Medicine & Emergency Management Fellowship offered through UMass Medical School in conjunction with UMass Memorial Medical Center, accepts up to two fellows per year and is a two year program designed to train future leaders in disaster medicine and emergency management.
UMass Memorial Medical Center has a robust and active Emergency Management program with several ongoing initiatives: Emergency Management Committee and Subcommittees; Joint Commission related activities; Community / Regional participation through the Worcester Metropolitan Medical Response System [MMRS] Program; home base for MA-2 Disaster Medical Assistance Team [DMAT]; Grant/Funding opportunities at state and federal level.
Fellows are expected to complete a master’s degree of their choice (MPH, MA, MS) during their two year Fellowship. The master’s degree will allow the fellow to further enhance their knowledge base as well as provide them with additional credentials. Each fellow will participate in a research project exploring some aspect of disaster medicine, emergency management and/or public health.
UMass Memorial supports the MA2 DMAT team, a volunteer group with both medical and non-medical experience and training. This team is prepared to respond to disasters locally and nationally and has previous deployment experience in both settings. Finally, UMass Memorial sponsors a Tactical EMS team and the opportunity exists, for well qualified individuals, to apply to the team as a medical provider.
Requirements: Applicants will be accepted from board-eligible/certified graduates of ACGME-accredited EM Residencies.
