Kimberly J. Vuona Memorial Golf Tournament supports UMMS and UMass Memorial, marks milestone anniversary
The beautiful weather on Saturday, May 18, 2013, couldn’t have been more perfect for golfing—and for raising money. The Kimberly J. Vuona Memorial Golf Tournament celebrated its 10th year that day, attracting more than 130 golfers and supporters to the links at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, Mass., to support breast cancer research and care taking place at UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Medical Center.
The tournament, named for Kimberly Smith Vuona, was created and organized by her husband, Gregg, and his mother, Janet. Kimberly was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in late 2002 just before her first wedding anniversary and passed away the following year just after her second anniversary.
The tournament included a round of golf for all participants and featured a variety of putting contests. It was followed by a dinner in the Cyprian Keyes Garden Ballroom. Since its inception, the tournament has raised more than $110,000.
