Starlight Celebration Benefits UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center
UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center presents the Starlight Celebration, its annual fundraising gala, on Saturday, October 23. Guests will enjoy an evening of great food, an amazing auction and an opportunity to mingle with friends, all while supporting a great cause.
Funds raised at the Starlight Celebration will support the renovation of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), an 11-bed unit that admits 700 very ill children each year. Regardless of the diagnosis, the PICU staff is there to provide the most compassionate and high quality care for them and their families.
This year, Wagner Motors hosts the Starlight Celebration at its Mercedes and BMW showrooms in Shrewsbury. This elegant and unusual venue enables us to truly emphasize that the Children’s Medical Center is the “Driving” Force in children’s health care in Central New England.
Many people do not realize that the Children’s Medical Center is a children’s hospital within a general hospital with a full cadre of pediatric trained physicians and specialists. To provide all of these services, we need the support of the community to enable us to buy specialized equipment, augment specific support services, and to create and maintain a child-friendly environment for our young patients and their families.
Honoring the Extraordinary Efforts of our Shining Stars
Each year at this annual event we present the Shining Star Award in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of individuals who support the Children’s Medical Center. Shawn Todorov and his daughter Emily will accept the award in honor of the The Elizabeth Todorov Toy Drive, initially led by Shawn’s wife, Elizabeth (Liz), who died two years ago after a long battle with cancer. Shawn, Emily and others have picked up the torch and continue the toy drive annually, with donations increasing each year. In addition to the toy drive the Todorovs were instrumental in creating a more relaxing and fun environment for pediatric patients and their families with their donation of four ocean-themed murals. Their commitment to the Children’s Medical Center has been a true inspiration to the staff and we are pleased to be able to recognize their support of the children and families we serve each and every day.
