UMass Medical School's Disability Evaluation Services offers a number of services that enhance and improve existing practices related to disability determination. Whether making determinations, helping other agencies catch up on backlogs, providing training and/or consultation, or conducting specialized assessments, the Disability Evaluation Services team devotes the time and attention to detail that produces quality results.
Our strategic alliances with various health care facilities, agencies, medical professionals, applicants' representatives, and other resources enable Disability Evaluation Services to develop and maintain high-quality, customer-friendly, and expeditious benefit eligibility processes and evaluation services for individuals with disabilities.
Disability Determinations
The Skilled Professional Medical Personnel at Disability Evaluation Services provide cost-effective, timely, accurate and fair disability determinations within established legal parameters, and offer specialized programs ranging from case backlog reduction to providing outsourcing services for the Skilled Professional Medical Personnel portion of the determination process.
Disability Transition Strategies
We work with insurance companies and third-party administrators to keep disability cases moving toward resolution. Our services include vocational rehabilitation, nursing case management, labor market surveys, job analyses, ergonomic assessments, expert testimony, and coordination of independent medical examinations.
Consulting and Infrastructure Support
Clinical trainers and disability and management experts at Disability Evaluation Services bring proficiency to agencies and organizations by applying their circles of expertise to the disability determination process. These experts offer on-site process analysis, training, and support to improve programs, systems, structure, and processes as well as to assist in developing effective quality assurance programs with relevant performance measures and benchmarks.
Injury and Disability Management
Intimately familiar with workers' compensation, Social Security and disability pension regulations, our injury and disability management team of physicians and registered nurses, certified vocational rehabilitation counselors and certified case managers offers a collaborative process with employees, employers and insurers to ensure complete reporting, effective treatment and rehabilitation, and a prompt, safe return to work. Additionally, we can assist injured workers who are deemed permanently and totally disabled in applying for disability retirement or Social Security. Our team is also available for presentations and training on a variety of topics for insurance companies, third party administrators and self-insured entities.
Learning Disability Assessments
Disability Evaluation Services administers this voluntary program for recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits to identify potential barriers to employment and suggest training and work accommodations that will ensure success.
