Call for Abstracts: June 1, 2009 (Year 26)

The DERC expects to have funds available to initiate new pilot and feasibility studies of topics related to diabetes.  Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded for one year with the possibility of an additional year of support, depending upon review of progress and availability of funds.

Schedule for Submission

December 7, 2009

The Eligibility and Justification Form and Abstract must be received in the DERC office no later than 5:00, Monday, December 7, 2009.

All submissions will be evaluated for appropriateness to the program.

The submission of these forms serves as a notice of intent that a full proposal will be submitted.

January 4, 2010

Completed full proposals must be received in the DERC office no later than 5:00 pm, Monday, January 4, 2010.

Three hard copies as well as an electronic version (CD, Zip Disc or any other PC-compatible device) are required in order for the proposal to be reviewed.

The proposal must be in the standard NIH format (398) and include the face page and budget information.

NIH application forms and guidelines are available on the NIH website and the Office of Sponsored Research.

There are a number of exceptions; for example, there is a limit of 3 pages of text plus 1 page for Figures. Please refer to Questions and Answers for the UMass DERC P and F.

If applicable, the applicant is responsible for obtaining approval from the Animal Usage Committee and Human Subject Committee.

Notice of awards is dependent on the Executive Committee funding decision, usually made during the month of April.

Award notification and starting dates for successful proposals may be delayed until receipt of funding notice for the DERC from the NIH/NIDDK.
