What is a DERC?

DERC stands for

Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center.

We are part of a nationwide program supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).  A collaborative of multidisciplinary investigators, the DERC facilitates research by providing infrastructure and expertise focused on curing diabetes.

Why are DERCs Important?

The DERC provides a nexus of services, support, and community to investigators focusing on diabetes-related research that will
  • Enhance existing programs
  • Develop new programs.
  • Develop a new generation of young investigators.
  • Encourage established investigators to focus on diabetes-related problems.
  • Provide efficient cutting-edge core facilities to maximize the performance of time-consuming and/or costly techniques*
  • Promote the exchange of information and ideas among basic and clinical research investigators.

*Note that acknowledgement of the use of DERC Scientific Core resources is required in any resultant publication, paper, or a presentation.
