Dr. Xu received his Ph.D. in the field of condensed matter physics from The University of Science & Technology of China, where he used electron microscope to study the structures of inorganic materials. He joined Brandeis University CryoEM teams and worked as facility director for 15 years before he moved to UMass Chan Medical School to lead the new CryoEM facility in 2016.
