Why is the Annual Fund Important?

The purpose of the Annual Fund is to increase private support and to enhance the ability of the Graduate School of Nursing to provide leadership in education, research and service while developing programs of national distinction. Your gift will strengthen academic programs, support faculty and research programs and provides financial aid to students, establishing a firm foundation for continued success. The impact of community support on the student and faculty experience is critical and far reaching and leads to improve nursing care for the benefit of patients in the Commonwealth and beyond. All students benefit from the Graduate School of Nursing Alumni Fund.

As society recognizes the immense contribution nursing has made to the improvement of patient care, there is a growing need for new and innovative leadership. The University of Massachusetts Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) has had a major impact on quality health care within the region, the Commonwealth and beyond through its proud tradition of leadership in education, practice and research. Sharing a location with the University's School of Medicine and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the GSN is one of few nursing schools in New England within an academic health center, taking full advantage of its resources.

Reinforced by this collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, the GSN prepares the next generation of nurse leaders, scientists, educators and advanced practice nurses in its masters, port-masters, and doctoral programs. Through partnerships with faculty, students, alumni and health care organizations in the Greater Worcester Area, the GSN continues to grow stature, generating progressive, innovative, practice-based research and clinical practice models as the keystones of state-of-the-art graduate education in nursing.

How are Gifts Used?

Unrestricted Gifts provide the nursing school with the flexibility to meet critical needs quickly. These funds are disbursed at the discretion of the Dean.

Restricted Gifts are funds for targeted projects within the GSN, such as endowments for distinguished lectureships, professorships, post-doctoral fellowships and student scholarships.

Lillian R. Goodman Chair in Graduate Nursing - These funds are earmarked for the first endowed chair in the history of the graduate nursing at the University of Massachusetts. An endowed faculty position is a mark of national distinction that will enhance the growing reputation of the GSN.
