Emergency Room Rotation
University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center
University Emergency Department

Operating in a state-of-the-art facility opened in February 2006, the emergency department at the medical center has close to 80,000 patient visits per year, making it one of the five busiest emergency departments in New England.

The 65,000 square foot facility, containing 67 private rooms and the capacity to treat 109 patients at one time, offers private space and access to advanced technology for clinicians to provide the best emergency medical care possible.

The emergency department is certified as a level one trauma center and is the tertiary care referral hospital for central Massachusetts and designated service areas of three surrounding states.  Residents have the opportunity to experience a wide diversity of clinical problems.

Dental residents will be exposed to a high volume of oral and dental emergencies ranging from common toothaches to severe maxillo-facial trauma. Emergency medicine faculty bring an academic focus to the department and place a high priority on promoting an interactive learning environment. Dental residents are welcome to experience a full range of clinical scenarios under the supervision of experienced emergency physicians.

"The Emergency Department staff is excited to offer this educational opportunity to the dental residents. We look forward to providing an additional dimension to the services we offer the community while also offering a unique training venue to the dental residency program."
