About Irving and Betty Brudnick
Because of their life-long interest in mental health issues relating to his personal knowledge of depression, Irving and Betty Brudnick genrously established the Irving S. and Betty Brudnick Neuropsychiatric Research Institute at UMass Medical School in 2000. As well, they endowed the Irving S. and Betty Brudnick Chair in Psychiatry at UMass Medical School held by Anthony Rothschild, MD, a prominent clinical and research psychiatrist.
Among their many philanthropic pursuits, the Brudnicks also established at Northeastern University The Brudnick Center for the Study of Conflict and Violence
, which operates under the direction of Professor Jack Levin, a noted criminologist and sociologist.
Although Betty Brudnick remains actively involved with the work of the Brudnick Institute, the UMass Medical School community was saddened by the passing of Irving Brudnick in September 2004. He is greatly missed by the faculty and staff of the Brudnick Institute, as well as by the many other organizations and individuals whose lives he touched.
"There are no words to adequately describe
the physical and mental processes and
feelings experienced by someone
in the throes of a severe depression.
It's my internal mandate to use
my own life's events to help
ease the anguish of others."
-- the late Irving S. Brudnick
