About UMass Worcester: During my residency search I stumbled across UMass Worcester. I was struck by the wonderful balance between a University training program and a rural community continuity site. I stayed because I knew I would never be able to find the breadth, diversity, and strength of a Family Medicine Department elsewhere. UMass is a unique place to be as a family medicine physician in New England and I LOVE IT!
Personal Facts: I have four incredible children with diverse interests, from ballet to cattle shows and a whole lot of sports in between! My husband and I love marathon running and use it as a great excuse to travel together.

Michael P. Smith, MS

Michael is a graduate of Bowdoin College and holds a Master's degree in Marketing Communication from Clark University. A native of Peabody, MA, Michael was an undergraduate admissions officer at the science university Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for more than a decade prior to joining our residency in 2008. He is responsible for our annual resident selection process and also manages the residencies' web and electronic communications, including web pages, blogs, and e-newsletters. Michael resides in Westboro, MA with his wife Sue and two children.

Tamara joined our residency staff in 2008 after spending three years managing UMass Medical School's annual Walk to Cure Cancer. A native of upstate New York, Tamara holds an MS in Health Care Administration, Economic and Urban Policy. She currently lives in Worcester with her husband and family.

A Canadian native, Jan was raised in Hanson, MA. She worked most recently at Heywood Hospital in Gardner, MA prior to joining our residency in 2005. Jan is an avid gardener and resides in Barre, MA with her husband Matt.
