Community Service

Every day, in ways as varied as they are numerous, members of the UMass Medical School (UMMS) community are actively and passionately engaged in the surrounding communities. In this, the Community Outreach section of our Web site, you will find compelling stories illustrating the ways we are enhancing health and science education, ensuring community health, building a diverse workforce and enriching lives.

The spirit of engagement that exists at UMMS is impressive. To underscore it, we will catalog our service efforts and initiatives here. To enhance it, we will respond to the unmet needs around us through the energy, resolve and creativity of our students, faculty and staff. We believe firmly that the work we do in our cities, towns and neighborhoods is as important as what we do in the classroom, clinic and laboratory.

Public Service

Fulfilling a large portion of the UMMS public service mission to improve health outcomes for those served by public health and human service agencies is Commonwealth Medicine. Through innovative consulting and service models that apply the knowledge and resources of the UMMS, this division has helped increase the value and quality of health care expenditures, and improve access and delivery of care to at-risk and uninsured populations.
