Financial Modeling
At UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division, extensive public service experience informs the approach we take to financing health care programs and reform initiatives. With a unique perspective that takes into account the complexity of public health care, we design creative, effective, and fiscally-sound health care financing structures specifically for public agencies and organizations. We also develop payment and purchasing models that have a positive impact on health care delivery systems.
After analyzing funding streams and payment methodologies, our Center for Health Law and Economics team develops models that meet our clients’ individual goals — all while staying within budget and maintaining high-quality care and outcomes.
The Commonwealth Medicine division’s financial modeling services include the following:
- Identifying relevant modeling data
- Modeling based on stated assumptions
- Dynamic modeling with alternative scenarios
- Presentation of modeling results in formats to suit multiple audiences
We conduct an in-depth review prior to designing health care payment and purchasing models for our clients. Our process includes these elements:
- Understanding the driving forces behind new policy
- Interviewing stakeholders
- Identifying, obtaining, and analyzing the data informing the decision-making
- Developing incentive-based payment and purchasing systems
- Constructing models to assess the impact of proposed changes
- Recommending changes for payment and purchasing systems
