Federal and State Claiming

The indirect costs associated with Medicaid spending can easily push states’ health care budgets into the red. UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division identifies federal and state reimbursement opportunities that help reverse that trend, helping states’ overcome the limitations of their resources and experience.

Applying our in-depth knowledge of government financing structures, our Center for Health Care Financing staff analyzes Medicaid and Medicare programs to find areas that may be eligible for enhanced or supplemental federal reimbursement. We implement efficient, workable claiming processes to increase reimbursement rates and enhance revenue for our clients. Our services help state and municipal government agencies and programs achieve the following:

  • Establish the intergovernmental agreements necessary to capture additional revenue
  • Identify services eligible for reimbursements at a greater federal matching rate
  • Overcome administrative obstacles
  • Find opportunities for collaboration between public universities, medical schools, and state Medicaid agencies
