Curricula and Education Materials
As part of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, we recognize that curricula and teaching materials are the foundation upon which all educational initiatives are built. Commonwealth Medicine programs offer targeted, multidisciplinary curricula design and educational material development spanning a broad array of professional disciplines, communities, ages, cultures and geographies. Many educational strategies begin with information gathering among stakeholders. When appropriate, we first provide a needs assessment to determine a client's specific goals. We combine input from providers and appropriate focus groups, with the experience and research of our expert faculty, to identify the most effective messaging and distribution channels to reach the target audience. Further, we consider each new program an opportunity to increase the cultural awareness of the audience.
With access to the resources of the Medical School, we develop curricula, training and educational materials for audiences ranging from physicians and nurses to social and community health workers and the clients they serve. Using the principles of adult learning, or the style most appropriate to the audience, our interactive presentations can include a mix of lecture, audio-visual aids, discussion, role-playing, and question and answer sessions - all based on the best, most up-to-date research evidence available.
