Disability Evaluation Services

Streamlined, accurate and timely disability evaluations benefit both applicants and state agencies—by providing an easier, less cumbersome process to the former and reducing administrative spending for the latter. Commonwealth Medicine’s Disability Evaluation Services achieves both these goals through its Massachusetts Medicaid (Mass Health) and Department of Transitional Assistance program eligibility reviews.

Disability Evaluation Services provides qualitative, cost-effective and comprehensive disability eligibility evaluation services—always with an eye towards fiscal efficiencies and quality improvements. For example, our consolidated determination process reviews applicants for all eligible benefit programs at once, thereby preventing duplicate administrative costs. Our development of a universal disability application, for use by multiple agencies, further simplifies the process.

With the support of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, we are unique in that our consultation includes the input of highly trained clinicians, who are best equipped to evaluate applicants’ complex medical issues. Our Learning Disability Assessment Program takes advantage of these clinical resources to identify previously undiagnosed learning disabilities in clients looking to enter the work force. With this information, we can provide agencies with recommendations on barriers to employment and vocational strengths and weaknesses.

Disability Evaluation Services works with other Commonwealth Medicine agencies by referring cases for private health care and Medicaid benefit coordination services, and consulting on applicants coming from the state correctional system who may be eligible for benefits.
