DR Rosalie Torres Stone

Rosalie A. Torres Stone, Ph.D. is currently Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and the Multicultural Competency Workgroup Director for the Center for Mental Services Research at UMMS.  Her empirical work on substance use and health disparities extends existing conceptual frameworks by including culturally-specific factors in examining mental health-related and substance abuse outcomes for Latinos/as.  Joining the center in FY ’07, she continues to bring forth her commitment to multicultural informed and guided research by complementing existing faculty members’ strengths in this area, developing the cultural competence agenda at the center and at DMH, and increasing faculty competence through self-evaluation and consultation.    

 

Research Interests:

  • Pathways to employment for Latinos with serious mental illness
  • Co-occurring mental and physical disorders among adults

Ongoing Projects:

  1. She has been actively involved with Worcester Community HealthLink in advancing multicultural research and in knowledge transfer between researchers and clinicians.
  2. She also provides consultation on data collection design relevant to race/ethnicity issues on the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP) project on racial disparities in their services.
