Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Sponsored by the OCE and the UMMS Department of Surgery, and meeting the standards of the American College of Surgeons, the ATLS course is designed to train physicians who are in a position to provide the first hours of emergency care to trauma victims. The nineteen-hour course utilizes didactic lectures and practical skill stations in order to effectively teach the principles of rapid, effective assessment and stabilization. Successful candidates will be awarded four-year certification. All courses are conducted according to the guidelines of the American College of Surgeons.
Educational Objectives: At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of concepts and principles of patient assessment and management
- Perform skills necessary to diagnose and treat traumatic injuries
- Establish management priorities in single & multiple trauma
- Perform the initial assessment and management of trauma victims

Physicians:
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essential areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. The University of Massachusetts Medical School is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
ATLS Provider: The UMMS designates this live activity for a maximum of 19 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™
Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Nurses:
ATLS Provider: This offering meets the requirements for 22.8 contact hours for nurses as specified by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in nursing (244-CMR 5.04).
Nurses should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Others:
ATLS Provider: Other professionals will be eligible for 19 continuing education hours from the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Registration
You may register by fax or mail. Registration should not be mailed unless receipt can be guaranteed two weeks in advanced. The fee includes textbook, continuing education credit, and certification card. Note: This fee is non-refundable.
In order to receive the CME certificate, attendees must sign in on the day of the program.

Advanced Trauma Life Support classes are non-refundable when you cancel 2 weeks prior to the course date or after course materials have been mailed (approximately 30 days prior to the course). However, you may transfer to another class, if arrangements are made 10 days prior to the original class date. Classes must be paid in full in order to receive a certification card and continuing education credit(s). A certification card will be distributed upon the signature of the state chair to your home addresses when you have successfully completed the course and have paid for the course in full.
