Wen-Chieh LinWen-Chieh Lin, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health

Dr. Wen-Chieh Lin is a health service researcher with interests in long-term care, health care financing and delivery for elderly people, and evaluation of health care policy. Through his work as a Senior Project Director in the Research Unit at UMass Medical School’s Center for Health Policy and Research, he aims to improve health services and outcomes for elders. He is currently studying the prevalence of behavioral health disorders and medical co-morbidity among the elderly, as well as mental health treatment received among this population. Dr. Lin is evaluating a health coaching program for people with chronic conditions, and he is also involved in work that will integrate Medicare and Medicaid services for people with disabilities.

Dr. Lin’s latest projects include Nursing Facility Diversion Effectiveness Tracking and Evaluation of the Mental Health Services Program for Youth. He was the principal investigator of a project called “Balanced Budget Act Effects on Geographic Variation in Medicare Post-acute Care,” funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at UMass Medical School.

Prior to joining UMass Medical School’s Center for Health Policy and Research in 2006, Dr. Lin was an Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Dr. Lin holds a doctorate in health services research, policy, and administration from the University of Minnesota, with minors in gerontology and statistics. He also has master’s degrees in health services research and policy from the University of Minnesota as well as in biomedical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Chung Yuan University in Taiwan.
