UMass Medical School's Center for Health Policy and Research conducts applied and translational research on health interventions and policies that affect publicly-served populations and focuses on practical problems related to adoption of new technologies, practices, or policies.

Our evaluation and measurement team develops and implements a wide range of tools for performance and regulatory evaluations, including pay for performance, quality assurance, and performance monitoring.
Health Information Technology Policy
Our capabilities and expertise include health information technology and exchange research with a focus on standards, privacy and security, financing, and sustainability.
Research
Our research team provides an evidence base to support, modify, and improve public health care policies and programs.
Specific examples include the evaluation of the
- Effectiveness of services, technologies, and medications used in the Medicaid population,
- Patient, provider, and organizational factors associated with health care quality,
- Impact of statewide health policy initiatives on underserved populations (e.g., Massachusetts health care reform), and
- Factors that may influence the cost-effective adoption of novel clinical methodologies.
Office of Survey Research
Our survey research team builds on the methodological expertise available from the school’s academic departments and applied research centers and has expertise and provides complete services in all phases of survey research, including survey planning, survey design, sample selection, data collection, data processing, data analysis and reporting.
