Senior Research Scientist
Center for Health Policy and Research

Dr. Alexis Henry is Senior Research Scientist in the Applied Policy Research Unit at UMass Medical School's Center for Health Policy and Research.  Her research focuses primarily on identifying factors that enhance or hinder the ability of people with disabilities to participate fully and satisfyingly as workers.

Dr. Henry is co-Principal Investigator on the Massachusetts Medicaid Infrastructure and Comprehensive Employment Opportunities (MI-CEO) grant, funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the overall goal of which is to promote competitive employment for working-age adults with disabilities.  Under the MI-CEO grant, Dr. Henry leads a team of researchers examining the impact of health and social policies on the working lives of people with disabilities in order to inform the development of more effective employment services and supports for these individuals.  She is also Principal Investigator on the Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) grant, which is funded by the Social Security Administration. This grant provides benefits counseling services to individuals with disabilities to help them make informed decisions about the impact of employment and earnings on disability benefits.

Prior to joining UMass Medical School’s Center for Health Policy and Research, Dr. Henry served as Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at Boston University’s Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and was Director of the Rehabilitation Research Core at the UMass Medical School’s Center for Mental Health Services Research.

Dr. Henry is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UMass Medical School.  She earned her doctoral degree in therapeutic studies, as well as a master’s degree, at Boston University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Tufts University.
