Arrival Delays / Change of Plans

Please notify the ISSO and your sponsoring department if your arrival at UMMS will be delayed or if there has been a change in plans and you will no longer be coming to UMMS.  As your visa sponsor, we must be informed of any change in plans so that we can correct / update any necessary paperwork and, if applicable, notify the appropriate government offices.

If you are in F-1 status, we are required to validate your arrival in the SEVIS system within thirty days after the program start date listed on Form I-20.  You may miss registration deadlines if your arrival is delayed.  Please notify the ISSO and the Graduate School of any change of plans.

If you are in J-1 status, we are required to validate your arrival in the SEVIS system within thirty days after the program start date listed on Form DS-2019. Therefore, if you will not be entering the United States within this 30 day window, you will need to let the ISSO know.  We can issue an amended document showing your new program start date so that your SEVIS record will remain valid and you can enter the U.S.

If you are in Graduate Medical Education and your J-1 is sponsored by ECFMG, you must notify ECFMG and UMMS Graduate Medical Education directly of any changes in your arrival plans.

We also recommend that you inform your sponsoring department of any changes in your arrival plans, as they may need to update your records and /or reschedule appointments.
