Given annually to an individual or group that best exemplifies the values described in the UMMS Civility Statement, which calls for individuals to conduct themselves with integrity, courtesy and respect toward fellow members of the UMMS community; hold themselves accountable for their actions; and promote an environment where individuals feel safe and supported.

(2014) Michael Kneeland, MD, MPH, clinical professor of family medicine & community health and medicine, associate dean for allied health and interprofessional education, and interim associate dean for student affairs and continuing medical education, for actions that have enriched the academic community and serving as a role model who raises the expectations for standards of civility.

(2013) Tom Hopkins, director of the Employee Assistance Program, for being an innovative problem solver and compassionate colleague and for playing a vital role in the well being of the campus by providing support to employees in need.

(2012) John L. Congdon, administrative manager for the Office of Faculty Affairs, for providing leadership and management for a group serving the needs of more than 3,000 UMMS faculty members with integrity, courtesy and respect.

(2011) Lori Pbert, PhD, professor of family medicine & community health and director of the Center for Tobacco Treatment Research and Training, for her respectfulness to her colleagues, her ability to foster civility in others and her thoughtfulness in engaging colleagues in problem solving.
