A Labor of Love: A Two-Day Instructional Intensive

Supporting MBSR Teachers with Specific and Intensive Education at the Center for Mindfulness

Sunday, October 19 - Monday, October 20

This two-day instructional intensive is an expression of the convergence of three powerful rivers: the proliferation of MBSR programs in healthcare and other social institutions, the upsurge in MBSR teacher education and training institutes, and the identification and assessment of explicit competencies required in the ongoing formation of MBSR teachers.  Joined with the absolute necessity of extensive and regular personal meditation practice, these ‘rivers’ form the basis for global MBSR program integrity and fidelity and comprise a radically fresh approach to professional and continuing education in mindfulness and MBSR.

In service of this convergence, we will explore in depth, through a variety of formats, the implicit competencies underpinning MBSR and other mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) and two explicit competencies recently identified as particularly challenging via a large survey of 2,000 MBSR teachers and teachers in training:

  1. Conveying course themes through interactive teaching including dialogue and inquiry, and group process and,
  2. Relational skills and classroom dynamics.

In response to these stated needs, this program will focus on the pedagogy and intensive practice teaching of these two competencies including the attitudes and qualities called forth in each of us as teachers when we approach these areas within ourselves and while teaching MBIs.

As teachers, we are the primary instrument for translating, transmitting, and embodying mindfulness in our lives and in the classroom.  Such a full-bodied commitment asks nothing less of us than to be continually undone and transformed as a means of discovering greater resources for teaching what we are and what is directly known.

Saki Santorelli, Florence Meleo-Meyer and a host of Senior MBSR teachers at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society will guide this entire program.

Background readings and course materials will be forwarded to you upon registration and reception of full program payment.

Join us at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society in Shrewsbury, MA for this exceptional program.
