Paul M. Galvin, PhD is the Assistant Director of the Stress Reducation Program. He has taught Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) classes at the Center for Mindfulness since 2010 and was the Primary Investigator for the listing of MBSR on the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. In addition, he focuses on maintaining the integrity and fidelity of MBSR at the Center for Mindfulness and in the broader mindfulness community.
He earned a BA in Psychology from Hendrix College and explored an interest in Religious Studies at Indiana University. Early in his career, he worked with troubled adolescents, adults with developmental disabilities, and people with substance abuse in group home and hospital settings. He earned an MS and PhD in Experimental Psychology with a focus in the Psychology of Religion from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
Paul serves as a member of the Psychology and Philosophy Department at Framingham State University (FSU) since 2000 and has been Chair of the Department since 2011.
He was introduced to meditation in 1988 and has been an active meditator for over 20 years. He founded the Framingham State University (MA) Meditation group in 2005. He is a Dharma Teacher (lay/non transmission position) in Boundless Way Zen, and a shoken student of Melissa Myozen Blacker, Roshi.
