2010 Clinical Research Scholars Named

A “friend-to-friend” electronic message system to encourage colorectal cancer screening and the development of a “risk adjustment score” that considers psychosocial, and geographic factors impacting non-trauma emergency surgery outcomes are the research topics to be investigated by the two new Clinical Research Scholars, chosen in a pilot program of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Sarah L. Cutrona, MD, MPH, an assistant professor of medicine and Heena P. Santry, MD, an assistant professor of surgery, have been named recipients of the 2010 Clinical Research Scholar Awards. Launched in 2008, this program combines coursework, seminars, and mentored research, and provides 3-5 years of financial support and training for investigators committed to careers in innovative, hypothesis-driven clinical and translational research. Pathway to Clinical and Translational Researchstudent08

The University of Massachusetts Medical School recently launched an exciting new pathway for medical students   interested in medical careers in clinical or translational research.  Through a longitudinal and structured program over the four-year medical school curriculum, selected medical students will learn the concepts and methods of clinical and translational research.  The first clinical and translational pathway students began their studies in the academic year (2007/8) as members of the medical school Class of 2011.  This year saw the Class of 2013 begin their studies.
