Center for Clinical Communication and Performance Outcomes (CCCPO)

The Center for Clinical Communication and Performance Outcomes (CCCPO) is part of the Center for Health Policy and Research (CHPR), under the direction of Dr. Ron Steingard. CHPR's mission is to promote and conduct applied research, evaluation, quality improvement, education and training aimed at informing policy decisions and advancing practice to improve the health and well-being of people served by public agencies.

What We Do

The Center provides training and consultation services to organizations and individuals, including health care providers and professional staff. The training is designed to:

  • improve communication
  • create high functioning teams
  • enhance clinical performance
  • work with complex and culturally diverse populations

To improve performance at the individual, departmental and organizational levels, the Center uses an evidence-based approach that combines:

  • needs assessment
  • tailored interventions
  • outcome assessment

There is strong evidence in the medical literature that effective communication between clinicians and patients and among clinicians and staff leads to:

  • increased patient satisfaction
  • better medical outcomes
  • reduced risks of medical error and malpractice

Part of the Commonwealth Medicine family of centers at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, the Center for Clinical Communication and Performance Outcomes (CCCPO) and its highly trained and experienced staff are uniquely positioned to help organizations achieve effective communication and improve the quality of health care they deliver.
