Cancer Walk

Event History

Each September, the UMass Medicine Cancer Walk brings thousands of individuals together to celebrate their fundraising success at the UMass Medicine Cancer Center of Excellence in Worcester, MA. In an effort to combat cancer and improve treatments, passionate individuals, business leaders, employees and community organizations form teams to raise funds supporting cancer research and care at the UMass Medicine Cancer Center of Excellence.

What began as a vision of the Manning family and close friend Bob Haynes has evolved into the largest fundraising event in Central Massachusetts. The Manning family witnessed firsthand the damaging effects of cancer faced by their son Danny, Jr. only to lose him to cancer in 1994. Two years later, cancer also cut short the life of Dan Manning, Sr. Dottie Manning and Bob Haynes decided it was time to initiate a large-scale fundraising vehicle to fight cancer. In 1999 the Walk was born.

Over the years there have been many stories like that of the Manning family. We invite you read on to learn about these stories of hope, passion and will – then start fundraising by clicking the Firstgiving link!
